2010 Olympic Medalist Allison Baver is the most decorated American female short track speed skater in World Cup history. She is the first inline speed skater to switch to ice and qualify for the U.S.A. Short Track Speed Skating Olympic Team. Allison has made one of the most amazing comebacks in athletic history. The 2002, 2006 and 2010 Olympian shattered her right leg while contending for the 2009 Overall World Cup title only one year prior to the 2010 Olympic Games. She was unable to walk for three months and after intense rehabilitation and training, not only qualified for the Olympic Games, but brought home a bronze medal in the Ladies 3000m Relay.
Allison has led the way for many aspiring inline skaters and Olympians. As a world-class inline skater, she first tried ice skating in high school and while attending college, moved to the US Olympic Education Center to train for the Olympics. It took a complete commitment and one year of training before breaking the American Record in the 1000m and qualifying for her first international competition as a short track speed skater, the 2002 Olympic Games.
Extremely consistent in her performance on and off the ice, she became the 2007 National Short Track Champion after suffering an ankle injury during the 2006 Olympic Games and has won countless National and World Cup medals along the way. During the 2006 Olympics, she was named by Sports Illustrated as the "Most Studious" Athlete of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and during the 2010 Olympics, TMZ and Esquire.com named Allison as one of the 'Hottest Female Athletes of the Olympics’. She is currently the American Recorder in the 1500m and the 3000m Relay.
Throughout her professional career, Allison has been highly sought after as a youth and corporate spokesperson. She has long-term endorsement relationships with Penske Truck Rental and Procter & Gamble Beauty, including Pantene, CoverGirl, Olay, Fusion and Secret Clinical Sport. Throughout her career, she has worked with companies such as Nike, Panasonic, Budweiser, The Home Depot, McDonald's, Novell, Hilton Corp and AT&T to name a few. She has been on the cover of Valley Social Magazine and Muscle and Body and has been featured in countless magazines including Muscle and Fitness, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Men’s Fitness, People, US Weekly, Cosmopolitan, Philadelphia Style and Sports Illustrated. She most recently co-hosted NBC Philadelphia's The 10! Show.
Allison is the founder of Off the Ice (www.offtheice.org), a non-profit foundation for which the mission is to use skating as a tool to instill goal development, character values and healthy lifestyles in today's youth by providing skates, curriculums and related equipment to organizations and communities throughout the world. She is also a member of the Athlete Advisory Council for the USOC and an advocate for government athlete funding and athlete support. Aside from her own foundation, she is also involved in various other non-profit associations including Millions from One, The Haitian Sports Foundation, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Habitat for Humanity, Betsy King's Golf for Africa, Children's Home of Reading, Utah Youth Village and the Gilmore/Henne Community Fund to name a few.
Allison graduated in 2003 from Penn State University with a BA in Marketing and Management and in 2007 earned her MBA specializing in Marketing, all while competing. She has modeled professionaly and counts fashion, beauty and fitness as her passions. She is originally from the Philadelphia, PA area and currently resides in Salt Lake City where she is training for the 2014 Olympic Games.
