A best-selling author, environmentalist and academic, Bjorn Lomborg is an adjunct professor at the Copenhagen Business School, director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center and a former director of the Environmental Assessment Institute in Copenhagen. He became internationally-known for his best-selling and controversial book, The Skeptical Environmentalist.
The idea behind The Skeptical Environmentalist originated in 1998 as a result of four articles Lomborg had written in a leading Danish newspaper about the state of the environment. The articles caused a firestorm debate which received global coverage, prompting the publication of Lomborg's first book in 2001.
Since the publication of The Skeptical Environmentalist, Lomborg has become a frequent participant in public debate. His articles appear regularly in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Globe & Mail, The Guardian, The Sunday Telegraph, The Times and The Economist. He has appeared on numerous television shows including, Politically Incorrect, 60 minutes, Larry King, 20/20 and BBC Newsnight.
In 2004, Lomborg organized the first Copenhagen Consensus, a simple yet untested idea of prioritizing global issues and opportunities with input from leading economists. The project was an enormous success and received positive media coverage from around the world. A second Consensus took place in May of 2008, providing up-to-date analysis for policy-makers in ten key areas. The Copenhagen Consensus Center aims to hold the Consensus every four years, much like the Olympics.
In September 2007, Lomborg published Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Climate Change, a groundbreaking book that has transformed the debate about global warming by offering a fresh perspective based on human need as well as environmental concerns. The book has since been translated into 17 languages.
Lomborg has received numerous accolades since the release of his first book. In November 2001, he was selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum and in 2004 TIME magazine named him as "One of the World's Top 100 Most Influential People." In 2008, the UK Guardian referred to him as 'One of the 50 People Who Could Save the Planet" and the same year Esquire labelled him "One of the World's 75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century."
