Walking with the Wounded (WWTW) is a charitable foundation which organises high profile and extreme expeditions to raise funds to assist with the re-training and re-education of servicemen and women, both veterans and those leaving the UK's Armed Forces.
In April 2011, a team of four wounded soldiers, two charity founders, two Polar guides and Prince Harry, departed for the first Walking With The Wounded expedition, with the aim of reaching The Geographic North Pole, unsupported, to raise awareness of the challenges which Harry and so many of our military face.
WWTW's expeditions aim to keep young men and women who have been injured in the public eye, and to demonstrate the extraordinary determination and courage of the wounded to the public. The hope is that they will inspire others, not just the wounded, but those with disabilities who face personal difficulties in day to day life.
Ed Parker, founder of WWTW, served in the Royal Green Jackets in the 1980’s and 1990’s, seeing active service in Northern Ireland. Upon leaving the Army, Ed spent some time in the financial world and today runs his own wine business based in Norfolk. Ed was part of the Walking with the Wounded North Pole expedition in 2011. He founded WWTW after his nephew Harry Parker lost both of his legs whilst on active service in Afghanistan in 2009.
In May 2012 WWTW will take on the highest mountain in the World, Everest, and in 2013, the largest expedition to date is being planned, maintaining the momentum of the charity and its fundraising potential.
