On August 9th, 2010 Ed Stafford became the first man in history to walk the entire length of the Amazon River. He and his assistant Cho (who had walked with Ed for all but four of the 28 months), ran into the Atlantic Ocean and into the record books.
Ed, from Leicestershire in England, has led remote expeditions all over the world. He started running expeditions after retiring from the British Army as a captain in 2002. Whilst not leading trips Ed worked alongside the United Nations in Afghanistan assisting with the first ever presidential elections advising on security, planning and logistics. Prior to this journey Ed was in production with the BBC on their conservation series Lost Land of the Jaguar.
Ed’s passion lies in pushing himself to achieve feats that others may not believe are possible. He is inspired by explorers such as Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Borge Ousland and Mike Horn – all of whom have accomplished outstanding feats of human endeavor.
Ed intends to use his expeditions to assist in education projects that will make learning fun. He was awarded the title of “European Adventurer of the Year 2011″ in Stockholm and is a Scouting ambassador.
In 2012 Ed was dropped off alone on an uninhabited Fijian island for 60 days with nothing - no food, no water, no survival kit, no film crew - not even any clothes! Naked Castaway, a 3-part series, premiered internationally on Discovery Channel in April 2013.
