Veteran NFL coach Eric Mangini shares with audiences his unconventional ascent from 23-year old ball boy to 34-year old head coach and the lessons learned along the way. A member of three Super Bowl championship coaching staffs and a head coach charged with rebuilding two franchises, he shares ideas on innovation, culture change, team-building and perseverance.

A dedicated worker as well as a fast learner, Mangini started off on his unique path as a coach in Melbourne, Australia and then in the Cleveland Browns’ organization as a ball boy and front office assistant. He quickly rose through the ranks as an assistant with the Baltimore Ravens and the New York Jets before becoming the New England Patriots’ secondary coach in 2000 and the defensive coordinator in 2005. Mangini has contributed to many organizational transformations. He was part of a Jets staff that took a 1-15 team in 1996 to the AFC Championship two years later and a Patriots staff that led a 5-11 squad in 2000 on to three Super Bowl victories in four years.

With a strong vision of how to lead and build an organization, Mangini was hired as the head coach of the New York Jets in 2006. At 34 years old, he was one of the youngest head coaches in NFL history. Mangini combined his commitment to innovation and technology with a relentless dedication to a process that incorporates quality assurance methods to help draft players like All-Pro Darrelle Revis and identify multiple successful undrafted free agents. Mangini’s groundwork paved the way for consecutive AFC Championship appearances by the Jets.

Mangini became the 12th head coach in Cleveland Browns history and began the rebuilding process. Despite losing seven games by seven points or less, recording victories over the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints as well as a 34-14 win over the 14-2 New England Patriots, his tenure was cut short.

Since 2011, Mangini has developed into a critically acclaimed studio analyst on ESPN. His work on multiple ESPN platforms is notable for many reasons including his ability to break down the complex strategy and execution in today’s NFL as well provide unique insight for the audience.

Perseverance has brought Mangini to the top levels of his field but he has also committed himself to giving back. In 2002, Mangini founded the Carmine & Frank Mangini (CFM) Foundation to benefit under-resourced children. He continues to work with community charities and is actively involved in NFL and USO programs including those aimed at concussion awareness and prevention. Mangini currently lives in Ohio with his wife and children.
