Michael “Kell” Ryan has over forty years of extensive airline and business experience with a comprehensive knowledge that spans the aviation field including operations, customer service training, marketing, sales, public relations, and media communications.
Ryan spent the first 24 years of his career working for the Irish national airline Aer lingus where he was responsible for all operations, passenger, and airline handling contracts at London Heathrow Airport.
Ryanair, the world’s first low cost airline, was conceptualized and financed by Dr T.A. Ryan, Kell’s older brother. Working unrelentingly to revolutionize and change air travel within Europe, Ryanair’s business model has made air travel affordable to all and has changed the way people fly. Ryan joined the company in its embryonic stage and headed the major and crucial transfer of establishing the airline to the then little known airport, Stansted, outside of London. Before retiring he spent the last few years with the company promoting and marketing the brand within Europe and North Africa.
It is of great pride to him that he is a pioneering member of a team that has changed travel within Europe to the extent that in 1985 Ryanair carried 5000 passengers and is now the largest low cost airline in Europe, having carried 72 million passengers in 2010.
Kell has chaired and spoken at many tourism forums within Ireland, England, Wales the Channel Islands and mainland Europe. A strong advocate of higher education, he is currently involved with universities in Ireland, England, Germany and in the US, where he is on the advisory board for the Daytona based Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
Kell takes great delight in passing on his knowledge on topics such as change, company culture, leadership, innovation, motivation and cost control. As an international speaker, Ryan has addressed global companies around the world.
