Peggy Fleming is an Olympic gold medalist, successful businesswoman and a tireless champion for health-related causes.
Over the course of her illustrious skating career, Peggy won five U.S. figure skating titles, three world titles and an Olympic gold medal. Among her many accolades, she was named by Sports Illustrated as one of their "40 for the Ages - 40 individuals who have most significantly altered or elevated the world of sports in the last 40 years." She has also had a very successful broadcasting career- having worked as an on-air analyst for ABC Sports for close to thirty years.
In 1998, on the 30th anniversary of her gold medal victory, Peggy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Faced with what she's called "another Olympics, a life Olympics," Peggy underwent surgery and subsequent treatment and today, she is cancer-free. She has since become an outspoken advocate for breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.
Peggy has also had to contend with a family history of heart disease. Her father died of heart disease when he was just 41 years old, her sister died of a heart attack at age 50 and another sister underwent triple bypass surgery. Peggy knows from her own personal experience the impact of what complications from heart disease can have on a family. Peggy speaks frequently about heart-health awareness including the importance of exercise, proper diet and healthy living.
In addition to being a popular speaker and broadcaster, Peggy is also a successful businesswoman. A longtime wine enthusiast, Peggy and her husband, Greg launched Fleming Jenkins Vineyards & Winery in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 1999, they created Victories Rosé, a California Rosé, to raise funds for breast cancer research and awareness.
