Tanith Belbin is a history maker, trendsetter and iconic beauty. With partner Ben Agosto, Belbin is the most decorated U.S. Ice Dancer in history. Born and raised in Canada, Belbin moved to the U.S. in search of a skating partner and became a naturalized citizen in 2005. During their eleven-year competitive career Belbin and Agosto won five U.S. National Ice Dance titles, medaled four times at the World Figure Skating Championships and in 2006 they won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. Their silver medal was the first ever achieved by a team from the United States, and the first medal won at the Olympic Games by an American team in thirty years.
Belbin also knows how to attract attention off the ice. In 2006, she was named “Hottest Female Athlete” by ESPN.com and named “Detroit’s Hottest Couple” (with Agosto) by Hour Detroit Magazine. Following the 2006 Olympic Games, Belbin turned to broadcasting and received rave reviews for a stint on Good Morning America as an on-air contributing reporter and as a red carpet correspondent for the ESPY Awards. Leading up to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Belbin was named “America’s Hottest Olympic Athlete” by Men’s Health magazine where she was featured on the cover of the December 2009 issue.
Belbin’s beauty and talent has not gone unnoticed by major companies. Tanith, also under contract with IMG Models, has been a celebrity spokesperson for De Beers, Ralph Lauren, Sega and Proctor & Gamble. Following the 2010 Olympic Games, where Belbin & Agosto finished fourth, the pair were commentators for the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships broadcast on NBC.
In June of 2010, Belbin and Agosto announced their retirement from competitive skating, but will continue to skate in professional shows and tours.
